Jakarta City Council (DPRD) Deputy Chair Wibi Andrino has called on the Jakarta Aquatics Provincial Board for the 2026-2030 term to strengthen athlete development from an early age to improve the city's performance in sports and nurture promising local talent, rather than relying solely on recruiting athletes from other regions.
Athlete development starts at an early age
Wibi said athlete development should involve various stakeholders, including the Jakarta Education Agency and the Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency. Their collaboration is essential to shaping athletes' character and identifying promising talent from an early age.
Pramono Targets Overall Title at 2028 PON, Counting on Aquatics for Medals"We should not focus solely on recruiting athletes from outside Jakarta. Instead, we need to ensure that athlete development starts at an early age," he said on Friday (10/30).
He expressed hope that the new board, led by Ade Jona, would help Jakarta Aquatics win the overall championship at the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).
Wibi noted that Jakarta has internationally standardized aquatic sports facilities. He said these facilities should be put to optimal use by strengthening talent development, athlete development management, and healthcare services to support athletes' performance.
"This will ensure that our athletes are in peak condition when they compete at PON. Management and support systems must also be of the highest standard," he emphasized.
